B i o g r a p h y

Katie Alder started her classical training when she joined the Winchester Cathedral Girls’ Choir in 2003. She has participated in masterclasses with Colin Baldy, Dr Ron Morris and James Bowman, and is currently undertaking postgraduate studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff, under the tutelage of Suzanne Murphy and coached by Sharon Richards. 

 

Katie graduated with a First Class Music BA(Hons) from the University of Chichester in 2012, where she was a member of various university chamber groups and studied singing with Jacquelyn Fugelle. At the beginning of her second year of study, she founded and became President of the University of Chichester Music Society. Since leaving university, Katie has studied with Veronica Veysey Campbell and with Patricia Wheatley-O'Neill at the Wales International Academy for Voice Saturday Academy.

 

After working as a choir assistant with the Hampshire County Children’s Choir from 2008-2009, Katie has been teaching singing on the National Children’s Choir courses since Easter 2009. She currently teaches singing privately and at Wycliffe Prep School in Stonehouse, Gloucester.

 

Katie regularly sings solo and with choirs at venues in Hampshire and West Sussex, including Winchester and Chichester Cathedrals. Opera scenes have included Dorinda in Handel's Orlando (AIMS Summer school, directed by Stephen Varcoe), Despina in Cosi fan Tutte, Servillia in La Clemenza di Tito, Rodelinda and the Witches Chorus from Verdi's Macbeth (WIAV Saturday Academy). In the summer 2014 she performed in the chorus for Opera Holloway's production of Vaughn Williams - Riders to the Sea.

 

Recent solo engagements have included Pergolesi – Stabat Mater, Vivaldi – Nulla in Mundo Pax Sincera, Magnificat, Gloria and Dixit Dominus, Bach – Magnificat, Purcell – Come ye Sons of Art, Schubert - Mass in G, Handel – Messiah and Birthday Ode to Queen Anne, Haydn - Harmoniemesse and Little Organ Mass, Mozart - Requiem and Coronation Mass.
